At the Virginia Outdoorsman we not only offer the largest selection of fishing and tournament tackle in Southwest Virginia, we offer expert assistance with the selection and use of all our products to everyone, novice to professional. We are licensed USCG Captains who operate Charterboat Guide Services on Smith Mountain Lake and take great pride in our ability to equip our customers with the knowledge, the tackle and the equipment needed to successfully catch fish in Smith Mountain Lake as well as in surrounding rivers, streams and ponds.

We have the largest selection of tournament tackle, lures, rods and reels at Smith Mountain Lake. We carry rods by Duckett, G. Loomis, Powell, St. Croix, Shimano, Pfleuger, Daiwa and others. We have reels ranging from the very light baitcasting reels to heavy duty trolling reels. We stock reels by oKUMA, Pfleuger, Daiwa, Abu Garcia, Shimano, Lews, Quantum, Zebco and others. We also carry quality rod and reel combinations for those getting started and we can assemble a quality outfit to meet most any budget. We provide on-site set up and personal instruction on all the products we sell. 

We carry a huge selection of plastics by Deep Creek, ZOOM, Netbait, Berkley, Roboworm, Gambler, Basstrix, Case, V&M, Strike King, Yamamoto, Optimum Baits, Matts, Top Shelf and others. This spring we have loaded up and have a huge selection of soft platics, crankbaits, jerkbaits, hooks and accessories. We also carry an extensive selection of hard baits by Lucky Craft, Bomber, Cotton Cordell, Storm, Bandit, Pradco, Rapala, Rebel, Lobina RICO, and many more. Heading out of town, we have the colors for North Carolina, other Virginia lakes as well as the Chick and Potomac. and p

We carry a variety of different hooks, swivels, beads, sinkers, leaders, clips, jigheads and tools in our terminal tackle section and a full line of spooled line and leaders. This includes braided lines, monofilament and newer fluorocarbon and microfuse lines. We offer several lines of Umbrella rigs and feature those by Captain Mack, the best we've found. We also have all the components needed to build your own parachute and umbrella rigs. Our selection and price on sassy shad can not be beat around here.

For the live bait angelr we have many different rods and reels including several models by Okuma, Ugly Stix, Daiwa and  Eagle Claw. We offer terminal tackle with hooks by Gamakatsu, Owner, Eagle Claw and VMC. We stock Water Bugz Planer Boards, Redneck style planer  boards, Offshore Planer Boards, Outcast Boards, Redi-Rig floats and several other varieties. We also stock the clips and pigtail connectors needed to upgrade older model boards. We carry a variety of cast nets by Betts, Calusa and Cracker. We stock a full line of live bait tanks by Frisky Swimmer and keep Keep Alive systems. Wealso carry the chemicals needed to keep bait and livewell fish healthy. This includes Rejuvinate, Shad Keeper, Better Bait, Foam Off, bait tank salt and filter fiberfill. We also sell the areators needed to keep minnows and shiners alive and healthy.
